Literary Element: Conflict

"There was certainly at
this moment in Elizabeth's mind a more gentle sensation towards the original than she had ever felt in the height of their acquaintance."(185)

It is a person vs self conflist between Elizabeth and herself . Elizabeth is frustrated because she mistakes Mr. Darcy's attitude toward her as arrogance when he really only acts like that because he doesn't know how to show his true feelings for her. Elizabeth also doesn't want to marry against her will, so she is almost entirely opposed to the idea of a relationship in any sense of the word.

Historical Context

In the 19th century, most women were  interested in love rather than wealth when marrying, but the society around them were into wealth and good looks. It was critical to marry a wealthy man. The estate that belonged to the father could not be given to any of his daughters.Mrs. Bennet just wanted her daughters to marry wealthy men because she wanted them to be secure in life.

Romance/Relationship Elements

The main relationship in the story is the romance between Elizabeth and Darcy. They both ar so quick to judge each other. Elizabeth thinks Darcy is too proud and arrogant. Darcy is quick to judge Elizabeth on her looks and says that she does not temt her. Their relationship is neither only based on a quest for money on Elizabeth's part or emotions that blind the couple from all other important appearances of life. The importance of having that balance is characterized through the failure of the other couples in the story to reach an equal amount of happiness as Elizabeth and Darcy because of their chase of reason or passion.

Literary Element:Protagonist

"A single man of large fortune; four or five thousand a year. What a fine thing for our girls!"(1)

The protagonist is Mrs.Bennet because her main priority is to get her daughters married to a wealthy man.The purpose of Mrs.Bennet's eager to get her daughters married is because she wanted her daughters to have financial stability somewhere else in case of their father's death. She wanted nothing but the best for her daughters.

Honeymoon Night (ch 23)

As we walked, I pointed out all the different beauties of nature I loved. A storm stong storm came in and as the rain strenghtened and the wind blew heavily, Victor grew more agitated and timid. His disturbance was scaring me terribly. He was acting strangely and looking everywhere as if there was something specific he was searching for.He insisted that I go and get sleep while he check the area for some reason. I wanted to know why, but there was no use in asking anyway. I was frightened by the way he was acting. I guess he just wanted to be protective and take on the role of being a good, faithful husband. As I waited for Victor to come back, I could see the horror in his eyes. He suggested I go to sleep, so I headed back to the room. When I got to the room, I heard footsteps. They were definitely too big and loud to be Victor's feet. I heard a small mumble. I turned around to the most horrible sight of the nastiest creation of life ever! I let out a loud dreadul scream. The hideous one of a kind then grabbed me by the neck and I slowly went into a deep sleep.

Victor's Response (ch 22)

Victor replied to my letter. He assured that he loved me. Little happines rmain for us and to chase away my idle fears. There was no other woman and that he had a secret to confess. He said the secret would give me chills along with misery and terror. I could not know the secret right away. I could only be told the secret the day after our marriage. Until then, I was to not speak of it. Shortly after recieving the letter, Victor returned to Geneva. Soon after the arrival of Victor, father spoke of immediate marriage.

My Letter (ch 22)

Lately I've been feeling a little down. I feel that I need to express to Victor that if there is someone else in his life that he is not forced to marry me. I only want him to be happy. To tell him this I wrote a letter. In the letter I expressed that our unity was planned upon our parents since minority. As brother ans sister we may love eachother family wise more than intimately. If there is someone else I want him to tell me. I do not want him to feel as if he has to marry me because that has always been the plan. I want him to marry me because he wants to. I only want happiness from him. I told him that theres was no rush on a response and to not let it disturb him. Lastly, I told him there would be a smile upon my lips when he arrives.
